On Sunday, July 16, 2017 the Roanoke Valley Chapter of FRIENDS honored Kinney Rorrer with a “Kinney Rorrer Appreciation Night” at the Sunday Music on Roanoke Mountain.

Rorrer has been the authority and catalyst for preserving, protecting, and promoting old time Appalachian Music. Because of his diligent research of past recordings, the listening public has an accurate account of the instruments, people and songs of the Appalachian Mountains.

He has hosted the radio show, Back to the Blue Ridge, on WVTF 89.1 since 2001.  His last broadcast will air on July 10, 2017.  This request is in support of the hours of work he has done to legitimize and accurately record the areas old time Appalachian Music.  He is the national authority on Appalachian Music.  Without his encouragement there would have been no Crooked Road, no Blue Ridge culture to remember and no lasting sounds of music from the mountains.

The event was part of the regular Music on the Mountain series coordinated by the National Park Service interpretive staff and funded by the Roanoke Valley Chapter of the Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The scheduled group Judy, Henry and Jack are graciously allowied the Roanoke Valley Chapter of Friends to expand the July 16 program to include the appreciation night for Kinney Rorrer.
