To open the season annually the Blue Ridge Parkway needs hundreds of volunteers to help with the clean-up of its nine campgrounds.
FRIENDS chapters/volunteers assist in this effort and we also reach out to Parkway communities to engage youth and students to accomplish the work needed. Corporate employees and adult volunteers mentor the next generation of youth volunteers to get the big job done.
Volunteer jobs include picking up branches, leveling tent pads, sweeping out parking slips, raking leaves and replacing gravel as needed. Rakes, shovels, work gloves, safety vests and much more are needed for these projects park wide. FRIENDS provides volunteers and funding for necessary equipment for these projects.
