Blue Ridge Parkway Campground FAQs

  • Campgrounds are open, in general, from May through October. Please check the Blue Ridge Parkway National Park Service website and the table below for specific dates which do vary slightly year-to-year.
  • Camping is limited to 21 days maximum time between June 1 and Labor Day.
  • Fees are $16 per site, charged on a per night basis. There are online reservation fees of up to $3.
  • Check out time is noon.
  • Certain National Park System passes offer camping discounts, please refer to the current NPS rules here. In 2014, the Senior / Access Passes may provide up to a 50% discount on camping. NOTE: The Golden Access and Golden Age Passports are no longer sold. However, these passes will continue to be honored pursuant to the provisions of the pass. Golden Access Passports (for the blind or permanently disabled) entitle visitors to a 50% discount on fees.
  • All campgrounds have at least one wheelchair usable site.
  • Some sites will accommodate trailers / RVs up to 30 feet in length.
  • Drinking water and restrooms are provided at the front country campgrounds. Dump stations may be found along the Parkway, those campgrounds offering this facility are highlighted below.
  • No showers, electrical hook-ups or laundry service are available.
  • Parkway campgrounds are pet friendly.
  • Parkway campgrounds offer educational programs during the summer months.

Many of the campsites are along the banks of Otter Creek. The nearest large city is Lynchburg VA 22 miles southeast of the campground. A nearby webcam at the James River Visitor Center offers remote views of the area / weather conditions.

The nearest large city is Roanoke VA 26 miles south.
120.4 Roanoke Mountain Picnic Area April 15 2016 none campground-roanokeThis campground has been converted to day use only due to budget cutbacks. Only Loop A is available for use. The surrounding trails are open. The area does feature Sunday night (7-8 pm) music programs beginning May 29 2016 – bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy an hour of local music. Different groups perform each week offering an assortment of old-time bluegrass country ballads Celtic and more. All performances are free of charge. Picnicking is encouraged alcohol is not allowed. Leashed dogs are permitted but please do not allow your animal(s) to spoil this event for others. Keep them leashed and under control at all times. If your dog cannot behave itself leave it at home. The nearest large city is Roanoke VA 4 miles away.
167 Rocky Knob Campground May 6 2016 up to 2 days in advance online or by calling 877-444-6777 Credit: Gone Camping "Rocky Knob Campground"The Rocky Knob recreation area includes Mabry Mill a wonderful historic and educational site with gorgeous surrounding trails. This campground offers 81 tents and 28 trailer or RVs restrooms and RV dump stations and a campfire circle that accommodates up to 150 campers. This campground has four loops with one loop designed for larger RVs. The other three loops can accommodate small RVs but are primarily used for tent camping. RVs must stay on the paved parking pads. Camp sites are well spaced very wooded and plenty of shade. The nearest large city is Floyd VA. A nearby webcam at the Rocky Knob Visitor Center offers remote views of the area / weather conditions.

This campground has 110 campsites and 25 trailer sites 4 comfort stations and a campfire circle at the campground.

Register up to 2 days in advance online or by calling 877-444-6777 Credit: It's the Sound of Sunshine "Julian Price Memorial Park"Julian Price Memorial Park offers many activities including hiking fishing canoeing camping guided walks and evening campfire programs. This campground has 129 tent sites (2 handicap sites) and 68 trailer sites and 6 comfort stations (1 handicap accessible). There are several great camping spots located along the water and scenic shaded interior sites as well. The campsites are all surrounded by trees and well separated creating a more private setting. The nearest large city is Boone NC 5 miles north.

This campground has 50 tent and 20 RV sites which sit on the banks of the Linville River. It is the Parkway’s smallest most popular campground and the only developed site on the Parkway that allows group camping. Located next to the Linville River it offers access to great fishing but swimming is not allowed. It also is a good starting point to explore different parts of Linville Gorge. The Linville Falls trails that all start out at the Visitor's Center are relatively easy. The Gorge features more challenging trails. The nearest large city is Boone NC 21 miles north. A webcam offers remote views of the area / weather conditions.

<td > VA"Mount Pisgah is part of Pisgah National Forest and offers camping hiking and some of the most dramatic views of the Parkway. This campground has 70 tent and 70 RV sites and shower facilities are available. The campground is the highest (at nearly 5 000 feet) coolest and most secluded on the Parkway. There are secluded sites just for tent campers in a high-country forest complete with stately spruce trees. The nature trails circle the campground making for easy access to the mountain landscape. The real plus to this more remote site are some new hot showers added to the comfort stations. The campground is wonderfully integrated into the mountain landscape of greater Mount Pisgah specifically just below Laurel Gap. It sits amid the headwaters of Pisgah Creek and the 85-acre Flat Laurel bog a rare high-country wetland where wind-sculpted birch and maple trees shade the campsites. Rhododendron and mountain laurel grow in dense thickets that offer plenty of privacy for the sites. Evergreens tower above all other vegetation. The nearest large city is Asheville NC 20 miles away. A webcam offers remote views of the area / weather conditions.
