The Roanoke Valley Chapter of Friends, Blue Ridge Parkway is partnering with the Roanoke City Library on their bi-monthly speaker program! John Goss, President of The Astronomical League, the Nation’s Largest Federation of Astronomical Societies, will be presenting the program on November 16 at the Raleigh Court Library Community Room.

John Goss has been an avid skywatcher since he was six years old when he remembers first viewing the moon. His many years of observing the wonders of the sky led to him earning “Master Observer” status from the Astronomical League in 2005.

He has served as President of the Roanoke Valley Astronomical Society, Chair of the 2001 and 2010 conventions of the Virginia Association of Astronomical Societies, and Chair of the Mid East Region of the Astronomical League. John currently holds the office of President of the Astronomical League, the world’s largest federation of astronomical societies. He also writes a monthly stargazing column, “Roanoke Skies,” for the Roanoke Times, and is a board member of the Dr. Beth A. Brown Science Foundation, an organization promoting careers in astronomy to youth of the Roanoke Valley.

John and his wife, Genevieve, live in Fincastle, VA and are members of the Roanoke Valley Astronomical Society and the International Dark-Sky Association.
